Ingredients for bread pakora

  • Bread slices – 4
  • Gram flour – 2 cups
  • Red chilli powder- 1 tsp
  • Turmeric – ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Carom seeds/ajwain- ½ tsp
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Water – 1 glass increase as required.
  • Oil to deep fry

Method

For the batter

In a big bowl take two cups of gram flour add in half teaspoons of carom seeds.

Carom seeds are very important ingredient to this recipe as they add a very distinct flavor to this dish, so make sure you have carom seeds

Also do not put too many carom seeds or else the fritter would become too spicy half teaspoon or less than that will do.

Now to this mixture add in one teaspoon of red chilli powder, half teaspoon of turmeric powder, one teaspoon of coriander powder and half teaspoon of salt.

Now take a whisk or a spoon and mix all the dry ingredients thoroughly.

To this now add little bit of water say half a glass of water and mix well to form a paste ,add little bit water more to make it into a paste,

Mix it really well and remove all the lumps, a smooth paste like consistency should appear.

When a smooth paste like consistency is reaches , Add the remaining half a glass of water mix thoroughly to make the batter of runny liquid consistency.

The batter should not be very thin otherwise it won’t stick to the bread.

And if it’s too thick it will not cook properly while frying and may also break the bread if the bread is too soft.

Hence it should be of pouring thick liquid consistency.

When you pour the batter from the spoon into the bowl it should pour like how oil pours in one smooth line. That’s when you know the batter is made properly it’s not too thick or too thin.

Making the batter right is crucial to this recipe.

For frying bread pakora

Now take a kadhai or wok and add enough oil to be able to deep fry the bread pieces.

Let the oil heat up properly on a high flame, drop in just a tiny bit of batter to check if the oil is hot, if the batter starts to splutter and fry, we know that the oil is hot.

Now turn the flame to medium.

Dip the bread into the gram flour batter on both sides, let the batter coat the bread properly and then very carefully and gently put it in the oil to fry.

Make sure that you don’t let the bread stay in the batter too long otherwise it would just soak up all the batter and become sogggy.

Soggy bread would break while putting into oil while frying . Hence , take the bread out immediately after coating it with batter on both the sides.

Once you coat the bread properly with the batter , very carefully put it in the oil to fry

Fry it for about 2-3 minutes on each side, fry it till it changes color and becomes orange brown in color from both sides and then drain the excess oil and remove it in a plate.

you can remove it directly on to the plate or remove it on a paper towel to absorb the excess oil.

Let it cool for a bit so that it is easier for you to cut it

Cut triangles and serve it with ketchup and tea .

Bread pakoras can also be served, with green chutney i.e. coriander and mint chutney or Imli ki chutney recipe quick and easy . And enjoy this super delicious easy to make snack.

Tip:- you can also add in chopped coriander into the batter if you like it .
